Nicknames

Some easier than saying given names,
Some merely crafted as cruel sibling games:
Clay for Clayton,
Kev for Kevin,

Nana for Julianna,
Corki for Cori,
Vanny for Savanna,
Oob(rey) for Aubrey

Drew (-Bah-Pooh-Bah) for Andrew,
Ellie (Has a Belly Full of Jelly) for Noelle,
Chairman of the Board for Noah:
nine works of poetry from nine true loons,

whose nicknames, silly as they were, did pale,
compared to childish wit that never failed.

  1. This play on a Shakespearian sonnet is one that I felt was necessary due to its outrageous nature. I liked the dichotomy of taking such a renowned poetic form and fitting into it my family's iconic buffoonery. None of us would be Robinsons if we didn't have a silly streak, and I felt that these historically absurd nicknames were a tasteful indication of just how ridiculous we can be when we all get together.

  2. I tried to respect my siblings' privacy by refraining from including them in any photos on this website, so for this poem, I simply showed the silly nature of my family through my own pictures. These were taken at various points in my life, and I feel that they pair with the poem well. They were put into this collage via PicsArt.
